Clay, unfired, ~24" long
(This should just barely fit in my kiln!)
An experiment. I've done other partial figures, emerging from surfaces. The intent is to show this on a wall, as if the figure is pulling herself out of the wall itself.
I originally had the lower leg only half there, as if it were pulling out of the surface, but I wanted to have the foot. Perhaps the best way to show the idea would have been to create the thigh so it was only half showing, with the rest hidden by the surface. Ah... more things to try...
Update: Changed the photo here, after a fair bit of tweaking on the piece itself, and taking the photo from a slightly different angle. I'm also trying a new title. Rather than simply "emerging" from the surface, the idea is of birth, or perhaps rebirth. Still rolling this one around in my head...
